The High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) is the replacement vehicle for the M151 series jeeps. The HMMWV's mission is to provide a light tactical vehicle for command and control, special purpose shelter carriers, and special purpose weapons platforms throughout all areas of the modern battlefield. The HMMWV was produced in several configurations to support weapons systems, command and control systems, field ambulances, and ammunition, troop and general cargo transport. They are also air transportable and air-droppable from a variety of aircraft.
The M1114 Up-Armored Humvee is a purpose-built version of the Humvee family line intended to provide better protection for crew and systems alike. The M1114 featured a revised armor allocation with protection from various points across the base HMMWV design.
The M1151 is an improved armament carrier configuration of the HMMWV family. The M1151 is standard with the basic armor package of earlier generation HMMWVs, but it is designed to accept the various armor packages developed to bring it to a similar level of protection to that of an Up-Armored HMMWV. It has a heavier chassis and improved engine to enable the use of these removable add-on armor kits.
The M1167 is a TOW missile carrier configuration in the Expanded Capacity HMMWV series. The M1167 is equipped with the M41 Improved Target Acquisition system (ITAS) used to mount and operate the missile launcher system and features improved ballistic protection for crew, missile stowage, secondary weapons mount for close range, and ammunition.
