Cougar Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle

The Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles are a family of armored wheeled military vehicles used by the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps. The MRAP Family was designed to provide multi-mission vehicle platforms capable of mitigating Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), as well as providing protection against underbody mines and small arms fire threats.

Features

The Cougar vehicles incorporate a monocoque V-shaped chassis with a bullet-proof and blast-proof body. The Cougar’s layout is conventional, its engine is in the front, the crew cabin is in the middle, and the troop compartment is at the rear of the vehicle. The drivers are protected by armored glass windows. They can enter and exit the vehicle trough side doors, while the other crew members use a double door in the rear of the vehicle. The troop compartment roof is also equipped with a standard hatch.

The Cougar offers protection against 7.62mm rounds directly fired at the vehicle, and against rocket-propelled grenades when equipped with additional slat armor. The vehicle’s V-shaped hull reduces the impact blast of mines and improvised explosive devices.
