High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle

The High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) is the replacement vehicle for the M151 series jeeps. The HMMWV's mission is to provide a light tactical vehicle for command and control, special purpose shelter carriers, and special purpose weapons platforms throughout all areas of the modern battlefield. The HMMWV was produced in several configurations to support weapons systems, command and control systems, field ambulances, and ammunition, troop and general cargo transport. They are also air transportable and air-droppable from a variety of aircraft.

M1151 Expanded Capacity Armament Carrier

The M1151 is an improved armament carrier configuration of the HMMWV family. The M1151 is standard with the basic armor package of earlier generation HMMWVs, but it is designed to accept the various armor packages developed to bring it to a similar level of protection to that of an Up-Armored HMMWV. It has a heavier chassis and improved engine to enable the use of these removable add-on armor kits.

M1097 Avenger HMMWV

The Avenger Pedestal Mounted Stinger system is a lightweight, mobile and transportable surface-to-air missile and gun weapon system, mounted on a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle. It is designed to counter hostile cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and low-flying, high-speed, fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters attacking or transiting friendly airspace. The Avenger can operate in day or night, clear or adverse weather conditions.

Features

The Avenger system includes a 360 degree rotating turret mounted on a heavy HMMWV chassis with an upgraded suspension and 200 amp alternator. The gunner’s turret is equipped with missile pods mounted on each side. These missile pods, called the standard vehicle-mounted launcher, can hold four missiles that can be removed and fired in the MANPAD employment configuration.

The system incorporates an operator's position with displays, fire control electronics, and the Standard Vehicle Mounted Launcher (SVML). The SVML supports and launches multiple types of Stinger missiles, including the Basic Stinger, Stinger-POST (Passive Optical Seeker Technique) and Stinger-RMP (Reprogrammable MicroProcessor). In addition to the Stinger missiles, the SVML also incorporates a .50 caliber machine gun and the necessary fire control sensors for both weapons. The machine gun affords a measure of self-protection by providing additional coverage of the Stinger missile’s inner launch boundary.

Rotation of the turret and the elevation of the SVML is accomplished by electric motors powered by batteries carried in the base of the weapons system.
